The Gratitude Muscle

The way that muscles break down and self-repair is fascinating and creates an interesting parallel.

After you workout, your body repairs or replaces damaged muscle fibers through a cellular process where it fuses muscle fibers together to form new muscle protein strands or myofibrils. These repaired myofibrils increase in thickness and number to create muscle hypertrophy (growth).

The Amazon Alexa Echo device is a nifty helper and recently, an affirmation bank. Every morning, she awakes me with the reminder I programmed, “Start The Day with Gratitude”.

  • Is the voice in your head, when you first awake, urgent, reminding you of everything you need to do or did not do yesterday? Change that voice to something positive. It can still have an urgent tone, if that is what lights your fire. However, gratitude can become urgent also, if you prioritize it. Urgency doesn’t always have to be negative. Instead of waking up thinking “I forgot to do X, Y , Z yesterday I must get it done today”, try telling yourself good morning and choosing to start with the task that will give you the most resolve after its completion.
  • SET GOALS. Monitor Progress. Set More. We should be grateful for the ability to change circumstances, situations and the trajectory of our lives. You can flex your gratitude muscle by always striving for better and investing in yourself. With each pound you shed, the closer you get to finishing your degree, each job interview you acquire – your gratitude for the capabilities you posses will grow.
  • In this blog, confidence was explored as having a direct tie to the decisions we make and our tolerance for toxicity. If you want to take a small step in boosting your confidence, check out this amazing affiliate, high quality and sizes that fit ALL.

  • Muscles need time to repair. While some people choose to work out every day, rest is encouraged for the sake of muscle strength and rebuilding. If you are always adding layers of paint, the wall will never dry. Not every day, will you feel gratitude. Some days you will feel disgust and defeat. On those days, you can flex that gratitude muscle that you have been building up just for moments like these. If you don’t have the strength to say a new affirmation, or even get out of bed and face the day, you can rely on the bank of affirmations, all of the other times that you have made it through tough times and been okay – to remind yourself that you will continue to be okay. The gratitude muscle must be built and strengthen to support us in our weak moments because realistically, we all have them.
