Side Hustle Saturday: Setting SIMPLE $ Goals

Some people find ways to stretch the income they have by saving change or reducing monthly expenses (do you really need 600 television channels?) where they can.

Saving change is cute but..

My first year of undergrad taught me I should do all of the aforementioned things to survive , but with even more intention.

Set SIMPLE monetary goals.

I am not a financial advisor in any way, just a hustler… with serious intention.

  • Get cash back every time you go to the grocery store, even if it’s just $20. Ask yourself: What is your monetary goal for this cash? Perhaps, this can be used for your gas money. You know your needs.

  • Be realistic about what you want to do with online earnings. For example, I use one platform solely for Amazon Gift Cards
  • I never redeem cash because I know my intent is to afford the essentials I buy monthly from Amazon anyways!
  • With this simple monetary goal of earning $50 in Amazon gift cards every month, Amazon purchases never dip into my budget.
Shoutout to those gift cards…
  • Set simple monetary goals in everything except your job. For example, if you like to do surveys (check out Survey Junkie, sis), sell art (ebay or etsy), write for others (fiverr)- you can’t set your earning expectations too high.

Speaking from experience, I wanted to quit my work-study job the moment I discovered Amazon Mechanical Turk in 2016. Then, I realized, I spent 9 hours on the site to make $68.

I was excited to have earned money from the comfort of my bed, but did not compare the earnings to what I made hourly at my job. And sis, there was no comparison. Moving forward, I set a simple monetary goal to earn $5 a day on the site. (that’s all?) YES. This simple monetary goal was reachable during class , work, while in the bathtub – and I still made over $100 a month (cell phone bill – paid!)

Be intentional and set simple monetary goals , you will thank yourself sooner rather than later.
