The new school year is in full-swing. For my readers that have started a new semester (high-school, collegiate or post-grad) in January 2023, here is a short check-list to ensure you’re starting on the right foot.
New Semester Checklist
This series offers general advice on higher education, such as (but not limited to) heading to college for the first time, post-bach and beyond, studying tips, and media and literature suggestions to aid in the journey.
- Get Organized. This will vary for each person; using a planner, taking notes on your phone, ensuring you have charging devices and using alarms to stay on schedule are all simple ways to get organized.
- Establish and Manage a Healthy Sleep Routine. In this blog, How to Mitigate Night Anxiety, there are tips on how to stop a racing mind before bed. A healthy sleep routine consists of a cool, dark, clean sleeping environment and going to bed at or around the same time during the week. When you are able to awake refreshed, and possibly not have a need for coffee, you’ll know that you have conquered a great sleep routine.
- Have a plan. It’s not just “another school year”, “another semester” or even, “your first semester so it is no big deal”. You must have a plan for the beginning, middle and end of your educational journey. Do you want to be involved in on-campus activities? Do you have networking goals? What about your mental health during finals and other intense times? (The last question is major…)
